Masquerade Masks a la Duct Tape

Every year our derby league holds an awards night where skaters can win for various things; most feared, best jammer, best injury, stinkiest gear, etc. This year’s was a masquerade ball and  I always like to make something for events like this. A couple of years ago I made masks out of plaster strips and then painted them. It was a lot of work, and I really didn’t want to go through all that again . So this year I discussed felt or mesh with my boyfriend, neither of which tickled his fancy. And then I had a moment of inspiration. We made our masks out of duct tape! I did a cat face for mine, since I already had leopard duck brand duct tape kickin’ around for derby (Rebbles Flintstone always wears animal print). My boyfriend found some faux gears in the jewelery section of the craft store and so ended up with a steampunk-esque mask. These were absolutely fantastic! They were lightweight, flexible (so no worries of drunken breakage) and took half the time to make as the plaster ones I’d made previously.
Great success!
